Should Smoking in Cars be banned!? – Can E-Cigarettes help?

Recently the British Medical Association has called for ministers to ban smoking in all vehicles. It is claimed that passengers and especially children should be protected from the chemicals and toxins given off from cigarette smoke, and that the levels of these harmful chemicals are up to 23 times the level you would be exposed to in a public bar.

It is unclear as to what the decision will be, however reports suggest that it is hugely unlikely that a law of this kind would be passed. David Cameron an ex smoker himself told Labour MP Alex Cunningham, that ‘he would be much more nervous about going into what people do inside a vehicle.’

This has always been an interesting topic for us, considering that Nicolites Electronic Cigarettes are sold throughout many petrol stations across the UK. A lot of our feedback comes from Lorry drivers or smokers that travel for long periods of time due to their job. These smokers have praised Electronic Cigarettes for being able to provide them a cleaner alternative while travelling, especially within confined spaces like a car.

The great thing about E-Cigarettes is that the vapour that is exhaled is completely harmless. The vapour doesn’t smell and doesn’t linger like that smoke of traditional cigarettes. Passive smoking has always been criticised for causing harm to those that don’t smoke, and was a big reason as to why the public smoking ban came about in 2007. With products like Electronic Cigarettes we feel that passive smoking will be something of the past.

The British Lung Foundation have also backed this proposed ban and quoted that “children are literally trapped in the car and have no choice but to breathe in smoke.”
